Compactums
A vital component of any nursery, a compactum doubles up as both a changing station and storage solution. At Dream Furniture, we offer two standard compactum sizes to accommodate your space. Majority of compactums in our range are available in both sizes. Fully customizable, you can select the wood colour and handles to best suit your nursery.
When your nappy changing days come to an end, your compactum can be used as a chest of drawers for an indefinite period of time. We also offer a range of changing stations. These smaller stations are the same height and depth of our compactums, only the length decreases making them ideal for smaller spaces. A changing station can be used in a bathroom for additional storage later on.
The drawers on our compactums are fitted with soft close extended drawer runners, making them easy to open and close as the drawers run smoothly on the runners.

Baby Compactum Requirements
Starting at the basics, all baby compactums needs to be a comfortable height, allowing moms and dads comfort whilst changing and dressing baby- avoiding lower back issues when bending over a bed. The Alex Compactum, the Universal Compactum, and even the Scandy Deluxe Compactum all reach a comfortable 90 centimetres, height that’s 2.9 feet, for optimal comfort. With different widths allowing mom to choose one that compliments a full changing station, or to become the main station in the nursery. This means that you can use the baby compactum as the main storage in the nursery or to compliment what is already there. For example, the Carter Compactum works perfectly as a side station, giving more room to store necessities without overwhelming a space. Whereas the Easy Access 3 Shelf, 3 Drawer Compactum easily becomes the main storage solution in any nursery. Often these compactums are used well after the nursing stage as perfect chest of drawers!
Often it is overlooked how versatile a simple flat surface can be in any nursery or even child’s room. Our compactums are made to be used well beyond the nursing stage. However, this does mean they work perfectly as the main baby changing station in the nursery. The Mod Compactum is what we recommend most start with when looking for a compactum for this use. As this is easily the best all-rounder, with shelves, drawers, and a medium sized workstation. However, the Universal Compactum, the Scandy Compactum, and the Carter Deluxe Compactum are all perfect for a range of uses. A combination of drawers, shelving, and doors means that you can use the compactums as all-in-one changing stations that you need. Just remember that compactums are often the mainstay piece of furniture in any nursery.
Knowing what a compactum is, what it is used for, and how you will rely on it for your nursery is important, but knowing how to choose one is even more important. There are several things that you need to consider, each impacting the overall feel and comfort of your nursery, whether you are just changing a diaper or nursing your bundle of love.

- Material: The first thing you need to decide when choosing your compactum is the material of the entire piece, as well as the material of the top surface. Dream Furniture uses high quality MDF wood, which can be painted almost any colour. Dream furniture use only odourless, low VOC baby friendly paints. MDF is considered one of the best and most durable wood finishes for baby and kids furniture as it is solid, heavy and extremely durable.
- Depth: The depth of your compactum is how far out from the wall surface it will stand. Some are deeper, making it possible to change your baby far away from the edge, whereas others that we have, such as the Carter Compactum, are Taking up less walking space in the nursery.
- Length: Often, we have found that compactums that compliment a changing station are not required to be as long as others. Whereas the longer compactums, such as the Carter Deluxe Compactums, which can stand on their own, must be long enough to accommodate every imaginable use.
- Uses: You need to decide early in the selection process what your compactum will do in the nursery for you. Will it simply be another storage location, or will it be the mainstay next to the cot. Many mothers find that compactums are the perfect place to start their nursery decorating experience, as it easily serves as the centre point in any room.
- Colours: As mentioned earlier, Dream Furniture has a wide range of colours to choose from for all nursery furniture. This means that you can have a compactum that is one solid colour, two complimenting colours, or even one with colour coded drawers to make organization easier.
- Functions: This is not the same as uses. Each compactum is entirely unique, from the way you style it to the way we have designed them. All of them can work as baby changing stations, but not all of them have shelves. Some have drawers, some have doors, some have shelves, some have a combination of all three.
