Nursery Design – A stress-free timeline
Getting your nursery ready for the arrival of your little one can be one of the most enjoyable times of your pregnancy, and a great way for expectant parents to spend some quality time together. There are so many adorable items you will find along the way but you may not be aware that some items will take time to arrive, such as furniture. As we offer bespoke furniture items, made up to your individual specifications, we have a standard order time of 6 – 8 weeks. Plan ahead to ensure that you enjoy the process. By following the timeline below you will be ready and stress-free when you bring your little one home from the hospital. If you are already past some of these deadlines, do not stress but rather begin planning right away.
Choose a theme and decide on your budget by 18-20 weeks. Although this may seem like an obvious place to start, you may not realise how early this decision needs to be made. Whether you are going to peek at your baby’s gender or keep it a surprise, this will affect your theme. Once this decision is made you will feel accomplished and can start looking for specific items. You will also know what you want when compiling your registry for your baby shower!
Order your furniture by 21-23 weeks. Our furniture items, such as cots, compactums and rocking chairs carry a standard order time of 6 – 8 weeks as they are made up to your individual specifications. The sooner you have these items secured and set up in your nursery the more at ease you will feel. Plus, if you are getting a rocking chair (which we strongly recommend) you can start enjoying the benefits before baby even arrives. A rocking chair will assist with successful feeding from day one and you can avoid regular trips to the physio for a sore neck and shoulders.
Paint or wallpaper by 23-25 weeks. At this stage you have probably already decided on a paint colour or a wallpaper for your nursery that will compliment your theme. Getting the room painted or the wallpaper applied early will ensure that the room has plenty of time to air out. If you have already purchased your cot mattress, along with your furniture, now is a good time to remove it’s packaging and letting it air out as well.
Choose storage solutions and get those installed by 25-27 weeks. You will be amazed at how many items your little one will need. Once your baby is home, you will want to ensure you can easily locate all items in your nursery. Take a good look at the cupboard/s in the room and decide what additional storage baskets or shelving you may need. You will also need to navigate this room in the early hours of the night so storage space is important to keep everything neatly stored and out the way.
Add all the extras by 27-30 weeks. At this stage you will still be comfortable manoeuvring around so it is a good time to hang decor, sort out lighting and put away all the gifts from your baby shower. You and your baby will be spending a great deal of time in the nursery so be sure to include a special space for you, a rocking chair is ideal, with an added side table to place your tea or coffee.
Have everything ready by week 36. Babies can arrive a little early and you may start to feel uncomfortable moving around at this stage. Make sure all babies new clothes are washed and packed away, your hospital bag is ready, the cot bedding is ready and your changing station is stocked. If you have a baby monitor, get this installed so long too.
